I, for one, would welcome this Road Train technology by Volvo:
The system really is like a train – a specially designed truck is at the front of the convoy, and it’s the only vehicle a person is actively driving. All the cars behind are equipped with special sensors that allow them to follow the truck’s precise path, freeing up the would-be drivers to relax, read the newspaper, or watch TV (we can only assume that’s coming).
Besides the fact that it would allow me to read/drink/twitter in peace while on my commute, the potential fuel saving thanks to slightly lower speeds and of course thanks to hypermiling by drafting sound pretty appealing. And hey, there are enough trucks on the road as it is – it should be possible to equip a couple of those with the system. [via]
